vision and challenges
- clients wanted old European aesthetic without losing West Coast style; husband works in movie set decoration
- required development permit approval prior to building permit issuance to purchase density from City to expand kitchen into original enclosed balcony
- existing kitchen was small with limited storage, disconnected from beautiful waterfront view and living/dining room
design solutions
- greatly expanded kitchen by removing enclosed balcony
- installed farmhouse sink, heritage style fixtures and drawer handles; pop up plugs on island; all doors with soft-close hinges; full extension drawer glides
- added overhead lighting for living room, dining room
- redesigned large corner fireplace, aligned to improve furniture arrangement
- reconfigured ensuite bath, existing shower/tub combo – removed tub, created large walk-in shower; utilized leftover space to create 2nd closet in entry
- heated tile bathroom floors including in ensuite shower; glue down wood flooring throughout, tile in kitchen
- incorporated use of blue accents throughout: backsplash, bathrooms, kitchen
- European influence guided the detailed floor tiles for bath; choice of vintage lamps
- heritage style bath fixtures, doorknobs, lighting throughout; heated towel bar
